“At his side, as if you’ve always been there and always will.”
While digging through my folder of old stuff, I found some of the studies I did for my “Death and the Maiden” re-interpretation, and I just thought I’d share them on here. The final painting is acrylic on a 24 inch x 60 inch canvas.

Hal Roach’s Female Comedy Duos
After the incredible success of Laurel and Hardy, Hal Roach decided to try to replicate the formula with a series of shorts with strong female leads.
Marion Byron & Anita Garvin (1928-29)
Although this pair only made three silent shorts together, their film A Pair of Tights (1929) is considered one of the best silent shorts ever released. The Byron/Garvin dynamic worked with the tall and glamorous Anita butting up against the petite and goofy Marion.ZaSu Pitts & Thelma Todd (1931-33)
This pairing was far more successful than the first, with the stylish Thelma paired with the moony ZaSu. The pair made five shorts together.Thelma Todd & Patsy Kelly (1933-35)
After Pitt’s departure, Thelma was paired with the straight-talking Patsy Kelly, which resulted in even more success. Their shorts continued until Todd’s death in 1935For the feminist fans of Boardwalk
